Red Grouse

The Red Grouse lives on the moorland in the Dark Peak. It is only found in the UK.
The call of the Red Grouse is a loud
"GOBACK GOBACK" .

The sound bite on this page is owned by the BBC, ©MM.

The Red Grouse make their nests in and around old heather plants. In some areas, the heather is burnt off each year to encourage the growth of new plants. These young plants give the Red Grouse more food to eat. It seems strange, but in the
Dark Peak, as part of moorland management, grouse are bred and people pay to shoot them.
