Upland Streams
![]() It is often very wet underfoot on the Dark Peak Moorland, so strong waterproof footwear is really necessary. The Dark Peak Moorland is like a giant sponge full of water. The streams which flow from this area GURGLE AND GUSH as they flow rapidly down hill. WATER FALLS AND RAPIDS are formed as the water continues to rush downhill, passing over harder and softer rock and eroding a deep valley as it goes. Many rivers start their lives as tiny trickles and streams in the Dark Peak. These small streams, called tributaries, join together to form larger rivers which flow into the lowland areas and eventually into the sea. |
