Limestone Plateau

The limestone plateau forms nearly 90% of the White Peak area and rises to between 300 and 370m, incised by steep dales that we will reach later.

You can see the plateau is a high expanse of green divided by
stone walls and is mainly devoted to agriculture, with permanent pasture for grazing and hay and occasional arable land. In the past woodland would have predominated but over time has been destroyed.
